WELCOME FROM WINY KHIN
I am Winy Khin, a Burmese woman whose path from the lively streets of Yangon, Myanmar, to the innovative fashion world of Bangkok is a tale of passion, persistence, and deep-rooted love for my homeland’s rich cultural heritage.
From a young age, I was enchanted by the textiles of our distinct patterns, and the most valued, known as Loongaya (Lun-taya), which consist of an irregular succession of serpentine or zig-zag stripes of bright colours, red, yellow, and green being the most frequent, symbolising the historical depth and timeless grace of our heritage. This handwoven fabric bridges the past and present, connecting the old with the new and offering a touch of continuity in our ever-changing world.
Another fabric that inspired me was the Chin textile. The Chin people, an ethnic group from the mountainous regions of Myanmar, are known for their rich cultural heritage and vibrant traditions. Their textiles, with bold geometric patterns and vibrant colours, are more than material; they are woven with ancestral stories and embody a legacy of craftsmanship. Each piece reflects the beliefs, environment, and societal structure of the Chin community, offering a glimpse into their spiritual and social lives.
My dream of exploring fashion took flight with an opportunity to study at Central Saint Martins in London, and later in Bangkok, a city where tradition meets innovation, I founded WINY KHIN fashion.
At WINY KHIN, each garment is made with respect for traditional artistry while embracing modern aesthetics. My aim is to offer more than clothing, each piece is a celebration of heritage and contemporary style, a unique narrative of cultural pride and innovation.
Join me in celebrating this legacy, where the beauty of traditional Burmese textiles meets the modern fashion. With every WINY KHIN creation, you’re not just wearing a garment, you’re embracing a rich tapestry of heritage and creativity.
Wear the story, feel the culture!
